2007 January 31 - Slush

The cold season struck a bit early this year. Contrary to popular tourist belief, Baguio doesn't get really cold during the "ber" months this past decade. The air gets brisk around November but it really gets cold in the early weeks of February. This year though, the temperature dropped to 10 degrees a week ago. This morning it was 9.8 which makes texting hard. Not medically speaking, I think the blood becomes slush at this temperature. You know the semi-frozen drink you get at 7-Eleven? That's how I think the blood looks like around 7 in the evening when the sun sets hehehe.

If you're headed out here for a weekend getaway make sure to bring thick jackets and thick pants/jogging pants/pajamas. =)

2007 January 31 - Summing up the end of December 2006 to January 2007

I wasn't able to go online that much after arriving in Manila. A day after Christmas, I went out with my LST barkada. We went to Chicken Bacolod which was out of "paa" so most of us had breasts. Not for augmentation purposes HEHEHE. Barbecued chicken breasts that were surprisingly tasty despite being white meat.

On the 28th, my sister had to be brought to the hospital. She had gotten a strong flu strain that shot her fever to 44 and she was also getting dehydrated fast because she couldn't get food and water down. I stayed with her the first night. There were no private rooms available so we stayed at the ward with 3 other people separated by curtains.

You think it'd be quiet considering the room was occupied by 3 other sick people. Pero sosmaryosep parang palenke. As in!!! Welcome to jologs country. We had to summon the nurses to keep their "bantay"s quiet several times. And siempre, hindi sanay sa aircon kaya may pesteng nagbababa ng thermostat.

My brother-in-law was finally able to get my sister transferred to a private room the following day. She was discharged after three days and just in time for New Year's eve.

We were supposed to spend the New Year celebration in Baguio but, since my Mom and sister were sick, we spent it at my brother-in-law's place in Eastwood. We watched other people's fireworks until it ended around 30 minutes after midnight. By the next morning, I got the flu and was bed-ridden with fever and cough til mid-January.

It is my personal observation that during the time a person has flu, the liquid in one's body is 80% mucus and 20% blood. Forget what you learned in school. The mucus that comes out of a person with severe flu just defy the laws of science HEHE.

I finally headed back to Baguio and back to work on January 23.

2006 December 20 - Wireless Communication

I left my house keys while rushing out of the house. Yes. It's idiotic but that's not up for discussion. I usually lock the doors with my key but this time Manang Nally, our gardener, was at home and I told her to lock up. I got home several hours later and, after turning my bag and the car inside out, finally admitted to myself I had left my keys in the house.

I got the brilliant idea of going to Manang Nally's house since I knew she had a key. The problem was her house was in another mountain and the only way to go there was to go through a dark and slippery pathway that would either lead you to her house or to the river several feet down. On top of that, I distinctly remember her telling me they have killed several snakes along that way. I had no flashlight but I figured if I squint hard enough I'd see the trail. HEHE

While looking for the path, I came upon a house which had dogs barking. Now I will take my chance with a strange and dangerous route but figured I can't outrun an animal with two legs more than what I had. I decided the only way I was going to get through was to shout. Yes, I am a coward. HEHEHE After several "tao po"s a girl finally emerged to help me and she turned out to be Manang Nally's niece.

Since it was dangerous to try the path, we decided to shout to get my message across. We could see a dim fire still burning in one of the houses. Pedro, the one who lived just across the river, heard our shouts and went to Manang Nally's house.

Manang Nally: (shouting from the darkness) Andyan si Lee?!!!! (Is Lee there?)
Niece & I: Oo!!!! (Yes!)
Manang Nally: Yung susi kunin mo kay Pinang!!!! (Get your keys from Pinang.)
Me: Okay! Thank you!!!
Manang Nally: Sige!!!! (Okay!)
Me: Good night!!!
Manang Nally: Good night din!!! Babay!!!
Me: Babay!!!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, concludes our demonstration of the excellent use of wireless technology in communications.

December 8, 2006 - Home Sweet Home

Attended mass at 615AM. Since it was a Friday and very early, there were only a handful of people who went to mass. I took advantage of the situation and took some photos. On a Sunday, people stroll in the chapel's garden, children would be running in the paths, and some would be taking in the ambiance while eating taho. =)
