2005 December 22 - Doesn't This Sound Just Like The Philippines?

If you're thinking of migrating to the United States be sure to consider the state of New Jersey as an option. That is, if you've lived in Metro Manila all your life and you don't want to feel homesick. It seems like New Jersey has a reputation for corruption (well?), traffic (hehehe getting to sound familiar?) and hold on to your seats -- toxic waste (doesn't that sound like Manila's air?!). They're having a slogan contest to drum up some promotion for their state. Of course, the slogan "New Jersey: We Can Always Use Another Relative On The Payroll" didn't make it. But if they don't use it can we ask for permission and use it for the Philippines? HEHEHE

Bette Midler Sings The Rosemary Clooney Songbook

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Music
Genre: Other
Artist:Bette Midler
Bette Midler follows the ongoing "revivalism" of the sophisticated era of American music from the 30s to the 50s dubbed as the "Great American Songbook". Over the years, various performers and artists have rendered the songs of that era from Ella Fitzgerald to the more recent artists such as Rod Stewart. Midler's performance is a welcome addition to the fine roster of singers. Powerful and playful marks the voice of Bette Midler and the song that most captured her vocal prowess is "Mambo Italiano". Bette Midler's recording is an American classic in its own right.

2005 December 02 - Wrapping Things Up

Whew! Two projects just ended and at least I can take a breather to write an entry. Just wrapping things up at both ends and I can finally take a vacation! Looking forward to going home to Baguio and take in the fresh air. =)

2005 November 10 - Dave Taylor, One Cool Dude

I wrote an email to the author of my favorite computer book a couple of weeks ago and didn't expect a reply. I got more than a reply. I got a new book, "Creating Cool Web Sites", autographed by the author himself! Kewl huh?! In 1999, my Dad bought me "Creating Cool HTML Web Sites" and I've made it a general reference for making web sites. I'm twice as much a fan now than before =)

So, to Dave Taylor, thank you for the book. It will be used often and will certainly be treasured. =)

2005 October 8 - Wallace and Gromit and The Day the MRT Was Closed For Repairs

This has not been my day but it was a learning experience.

First, I left the house early to catch the train and after climbing Cubao station's loooooooonnnnnggg flight of stairs I found that it was closed due to technical problems. I had to take the bus which was more expensive than the fare of the train. You'd think the bus operators would have competitive rates but nooo. Don't be fooled by the musty and dusty smell, the used-to-be-white curtains which are now gray and the rickety sounds they make as they pass EDSA. They are NOT cheaper than the MRT.

Secondly, I now know why people cram themselves into the trains. It's because they don't have to sit in the made-for-tall-people seats of the buses and have your mid-thigh getting numb from the one-hour trip (and that's not even traffic). You also don't have to experience repeated, hopefully unintentional, brushing and forcible bumping of your thigh as people and conductor pass the bus' narrow aisle. You only get to experience the homo-hetero-sexually harassing masses of bodies in the train for a maximum of 15 minutes.

Third, Wallace and Gromit has some of the wittiest lines I've heard in a long time. You have got to see this movie! It's not only for kids, I swear. There are enough sexual innuendos to get you in stitches. Bring your kids and they'll find the bunnies cute enough and you get your own chuckles too. Thanks for the free movie Jen! Hmmm, all in all the day might not have been that bad but it sure is enlightening. =)

Bad Day

Rating:
★★★★★
Category:Music
Genre: Pop
Artist:Daniel Powter
First time I heard about Daniel Powter was in a file sharing channel where someone was raving about his current favorite song, "Bad Day" which was sung by Daniel Powter. Not one to be easily impressed by a recommendation, I decided to check him out on amazon.com. Good grooves, interesting lyrics and his music are fun tracks to sing to. Discover Daniel Powter in his self-titled debut album.

2005 August 22 - First entry

I had visions of my first blog entry as somewhat of a masterpiece BUT I soon realised I'll only be addressing myself haha. So without further ado, and with no promise of regular updates, welcome to my world. =)
